Murphy USA’s 2Q profits at $144.8M

Retail gas station operator Murphy USA Inc. posted a second-quarter profit of $144.8 million, up from $132.8 million a year ago, the company said Wednesday.

On a per-share basis, Murphy USA said it had net income of $6.92. The results just beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $6.91 per share.

The El Dorado-based convenience store chain reported quarterly revenue of $5.45 billion, down from $5.58 billion in the same period last year, and up from $4.80 billion in the first quarter. Second-quarter revenue missed forecasts, The Associated Press reported. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $5.65 billion.

Murphy USA's shares fell 18 cents, or 0.04%, to close Wednesday at $504.92
