Jazz icons honored

8 inducted into state Hall of Fame in LR ceremony and concert

Eight Natural State jazz history makers were honored before a packed house at the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Jazz Celebration, held June 17 at the Old State House Museum in Little Rock and presented by the Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation. The event was sponsored in part by the Old State House Society.

Kim Betton was mistress of ceremonies. James E. Thomson, foundation secretary and original incorporator, presented plaques to the following honorees and their representatives:

Claude "C.E." Askew Jr., drummer with the Clyde Pound Trio and the Stan Kenton Legacy Orchestra; former drummer for the U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note; and former percussion instructor and onetime director of the Master of Music in jazz studies program at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
