Wealth of experience helps Red Wolves in 1st practice

JONESBORO -- The Arkansas State football team kicked off fall training camp on Wednesday morning with a fast-paced practice in helmets and shorts under hot and humid conditions. It was the first of roughly 25 practices the team will conduct leading up to its season opener at home against Central Arkansas on Aug. 31.

Despite 42 newcomers on scholarship, this year's group features 15 returning starters and is the most experienced of any Red Wolves team since Coach Butch Jones took over the program prior to the 2021 season.

Senior linebacker Charles Willekes is among the most experienced players that returned. He originally walked on to the team in 2021 after transferring from Michigan State and has developed into a team leader, earning an All-Sun Belt honorable mention selection for his play last season.
