I think many of us are still amazed by the mid- to late-July weather. We went over a week not breaking 90 degrees, and we got rain! Unusual, and almost unheard of in Arkansas, but I am not complaining. The brief respite is over as temperatures are back in the mid- to upper-90s for the first week of August, and our chances of rain are fading as well. Water once again becomes the key factor for plant success.
Many landscape plants are still recovering from the winter damage of 2023 and don't need added stress. Water as needed when dry. Most woody landscape plants need only one application of fertilizer per year, and that is usually done in the spring as plants begin growing, or for spring bloomers, as soon as they finish flowering for the year.
