Dawson Price was paying attention to the MLB Draft on his computer Tuesday afternoon when he received a phone call from Eastern Oklahoma State baseball Coach Dru Sebastian.
"My head coach says 'Congratulations Dawson,' " Price said. "So I said, 'What are you talking about?' "
The former Bentonville West baseball and basketball standout, who recently finished his freshman year at Eastern Oklahoma State, didn't have to wait long to find out what had transpired. The Detroit Tigers had made Price their 20th-round pick with the 596th selection overall, and he became the first former West player to be drafted.
"I got the phone call around 4-4:15," Price said. "There was plenty of nerves. I didn't want to expect it and get disappointed, but I was also watching to keep up with players I played against.
