Steve Sexton had to pinch himself when he got the call.
On the way to a high school baseball game between Quitman and Newport, Sexton first heard the news that he was to become the new head football coach of the historic Barton Bears.
"It's a pinch yourself moment, 'Am I really fixin' to be the head football coach at Barton?' " the second-year coach said Friday at Big Miller football media days. "All kinds of championships, all kinds of legacies, and the first time I walk on campus it's like, 'Man, this is as good as it gets.'"
Arkansas high school football is not lacking in tradition-rich programs. There are many past and present powerhouses from across the state, including one right in the heart of the Delta in eastern Arkansas.
