Camden, circa 1915: One of best-known sternwheeler boats, America, was launched in 1898. It was 200 feet in length and built at a cost of $30,000. For many years the boat hauled cotton on the Ouachita River down to New Orleans. By the early 1920s it hauled some automobiles and even a load of "near beer" from St. Louis for Anheuser-Busch during prohibition.
