BOTTLE SHOTS | OPINION: Four distinct examples of albariño

Last week's column about albariño seemed to strike a nerve. I heard from wine lovers across the state and even from a few folks in the wine industry who noticed an uptick in albariño sales. This week I'm following up with a few specific recommendations you can find at (or order from!) your local wine shop.

Martin Codax Albariño, $19

This was the first albariño I ever tried, and it's where my love affair with the grape began. It greets you with enticing floral notes of orange blossom and jasmine overlayed with bright citrus aromas of lemon and lime. On the palate, there are flavors of green apple, ripe peach and a touch of apricot, balanced by a refreshing acidity and a subtle mineral undertone.
