Tara Conner, Miss USA 2006, shared the poignant story of her battle with addiction -- a battle she won -- at the inaugural Denim and Diamonds gala, a benefit for Clarksville-based Next Step Recovery Housing. Next Step is a 40-bed facility and agency that provides housing and programs from men recovering from addiction.
The gala took place July 20 in the Great Hall of the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, and drew a near-capacity crowd of attendees who paired their best denim attire with their sharpest "bling." Guests were also given the chance to add to their get-ups by buying big "bling rings" for $100 each -- the cost of two weeks' housing for Next Step residents.
The evening consisted of a chicken piccatta dinner and a program that also included remarks by Next Step co-founder and director Jimmy McGill and board president Paula Cunningham.
