Security of country

In the letters section on July 5, Tim Irby opined, "I fear for the security of our country with this feeble man [Joe Biden] in charge." I too fear for the security of this country with a crooked, Putin- lovin' lunatic in charge.

I once served on an ICBM launch crew, and I learned enough about the process for launching nuclear weapons to know that there are numerous safeguards built into the decision to launch (ultimately only the president can authorize release of nuclear weapons). The process relies heavily on military advisers, and it's not as simple as shaking the president's shoulder at 3 a.m. and saying, "Hey, Joe, there's a missile coming in. Whaddya wanna do?"

It is no secret that Donald Trump has little regard for the military, and I fear that he would ignore their advice and his arrogance would override sound advice.
