Re the dispute over the police youth effort, it is important to reply due to the unaddressed issues regarding this matter.
I cannot emphasize enough that the children in Little Rock affected by not having this program matter. The Black community is inundated with "youth crime." Specifically, the city of Little Rock has almost double the rate of one of their population (42 percent) of violent deaths. In the last year (2023), 88 percent of the homicides in this city were Black victims. In 2022, 82 percent of the homicides were Black. Currently, 21 of the homicide victims in Little Rock are Black. The city's response to the most valuable solution such as having the Our Kids program is "a manpower shortage."
