Southern scored five runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to eliminate a deficit and even its weekend series with the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff at the Torii Hunter Complex in Pine Bluff.
UAPB (15-32, 6-18 Southwestern Athletic Conference), which won the opener 7-6 on Friday, took a 5-2 lead into the fourth, but Southern (21-26, 14-11) scored a run each off an error and a wild pitch to start its surge. Logan Sanders had a two-run triple and later scored on a sacrifice fly in the inning as well.
Four different players drove in runs in the fifth for Southern, including a two-run double from Sanders, to eventually extend its lead to 12-5. The Golden Lions did manage to notch five of the next six runs to pull closer but couldn't take complete advantage in the final frame after getting within three.
