ASU draws help from imPACKt

On July 1, 2021, the NCAA approved a policy that allows student-athletes to benefit monetarily from their name, image and likeness. The policy has allowed student-athletes across various sports to be compensated for their athletic prowess, further than just the athletic scholarships they receive from their respective institutions.

The NCAA transfer portal opened in 2018 for the first time, but the rules were drastically changed in 2021, following a similar timeline to when name, image and likeness policies were enacted. While the policy changes were widely celebrated at the time, almost three years later, the landscape of college athletics has changed dramatically.

With players allowed to transfer freely without penalty, the transfer portal has exploded with activity. The most recent transfer portal window was open from April 1 to May 1.
