Central Arkansas falls, won’t repeat

The University of Central Arkansas softball team will not repeat as champion after falling 9-3 to top-seeded Eastern Kentucky in an ASUN Tournament elimination game Friday night in Oxford, Ala.

The Bears (26-27-1) started the day with a 5-1 win over North Alabama (35-19). In that game, they totaled 10 hits, led by four players each recording two. Junior pitcher Julia Petty (15-13) held the Lions to four hits and six total baserunners in her complete game.

Against Eastern Kentucky (42-9), Petty struggled from the start. She gave up a double on her second pitch and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, including 3 for extra bases, and 2 walks in 1 2/3 innings. In relief, junior Bailie Runner allowed 4 runs, 1 earned, in 1 inning as the Colonels took a 7-1 lead through three innings.
