Wednesday afternoon was the perfect showcase of what pitcher Jesse Barker does for the University of Central Arkansas baseball team.
The senior right-hander tossed a complete-game shutout as UCA (24-29) secured its first-ever ASUN Tournament win with a 3-0 victory over Lipscomb at DeLand, Fla.
As the UCA offense took five innings to find its footing, totaling five baserunners during that spam, Barker (3-6) kept Lipscomb (21-33) at bay with one hit.
In his first sight of trouble in the seventh inning, Barker struck out Lipscomb's Jacob Tobias on three pitches to strand the bases loaded.
The Benton native struck out 6 and held the Bisons to 3 hits and 2 walks, totaling 104 pitches over in nine innings.
In the sixth inning, his teammates gave him all the run support Barker would need when Drew Sturgeon's groundout drove in Zeb Allen, and Jake Trabbie's single to center field scored AJ Mendolia to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
