CONWAY -- There is no next season for the University of Central Arkansas football senior class.
That group of 22 players know they have one final shot after last season ended in heart-breaking fashion, a two-point loss at Austin Peay to miss out on the United Athletic Conference's automatic bid to the FCS playoffs.
This time around, there's no running it back, no we'll get 'em next time.
"We knew what we had coming up, our senior year," running back Darius Hale said Thursday at UCA's media day. "It's definitely fuel because we all know we want to make the playoffs our last year. We knew we shouldn't have lost that last game."
And for players with eligibility remaining after this season, like preseason All-UAC first-team selection junior guard Will Diggins, it's a chance to do it for their mentors.
