Ryan Crouser, a University of Arkansas volunteer assistant men's track and field coach competing for the United States, made Olympic history on Saturday night in Paris.
Crouser, 31, became the first athlete to win the gold medal in the shot put at three consecutive Olympics when he took first place with a throw of 75 feet, 1 3/4 inches. He previously won gold medals at the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016 and at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
Prior to his victory on Saturday night, Crouser had been tied with back-to-back Olympic shot put gold medals with Ralph Rose of the U.S. (1904 and 1908), Parry O'Brien of the U.S. (1952 and 1956) and Tomasz Majewski of Poland (2008 and 2012).
