The Ward 2 representative on the Little Rock Board of Directors is hospitalized, according to a news release issued by the city on Thursday afternoon.
The disclosure came after a roughly two-month period in which City Director Ken Richardson, 58, has been absent from city board meetings.
"Over the last few months, the absence of Director Ken Richardson from the City Board of Directors' regularly scheduled meetings has raised questions among the constituents of Ward 2 and the city of Little Rock at large," the news release said. "After speaking with the Richardson family, Mayor Frank Scott Jr. shared that over the past few months, Director Richardson has undergone multiple life-threatening surgeries and is currently still hospitalized.
"He must clear significant hurdles in his recovery before he can return to his duties and continue serving the city he loves."
